Get ready for spring!

With spring just around the corner, here are a few tips and reminders to help you make the most of your environment.

Outside

If you covered your trees and shrubs for the winter, we recommend removing the covers before the first buds appear. This will give them the space they need to bloom.

Cut off dead or damaged branches and add soil where necessary. Walk along your property and pick up any debris left behind by the wind and snow. Rake up any leaves left on your lawn and, if possible, aerate the soil. This is also the perfect time to spread grass seed.

After such a harsh winter, many of us are looking forward to long walks outside with our pets. Keep in mind that it is mandatory to pick up after your furry friend.

Winter garages must be taken down by April 27 at the latest. This is the time to sweep your driveway and think about having it paved, if it isn’t already. Please note that municipal bylaws prohibit the use of municipal water for the purposes of cleaning parking areas and paved walkways.

Inside

With spring comes spring cleaning! Use organic products that are safe for the environment. Let some fresh air into your home and take the opportunity to clean your curtains, bedding and carpets.

This is the perfect time to wash your windows, install screens and clean your fireplace, chimney and wood or gas stove.

Check that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working and dispose of used batteries in an environmentally friendly way by placing them in boxes provided for this purpose (available in various municipal buildings).

A change of season is always a good time to sort through your clothes and accessories. Consider giving new life to items you no longer use by bringing them to clothing banks run by local organizations, such as your church.
