REM-Mitigations measures- Request from the City Council

Deux-Montagnes, March 20, 2019 – Last Thursday, the Deux-Montagnes City Council passed a resolution formally requesting that the ARTM, the ministry of transport, and Exo together propose more effective mitigation solutions for those using the train during the REM construction period.

Deux-Montagnes City Council Formally Requests Better REM Mitigation Measures

The resolution was adopted in response to the February 28 announcement of mitigation measures proposed by the three authorities. Mayor Denis Martin said he was just as furious as his fellow residents about the solutions offered, which were considered inadequate and simplistic.

Although the REM project was welcomed by his team, the mayor feels we need transitional measures that cause fewer headaches and allow better time savings for users travelling into Montreal. “The options currently on the table are a threat to resident mobility in our region, and they’ll finally decide to take their cars instead, which is just what we want to avoid,” said Mayor Martin.

Introduction of a shuttle bus service to the downtown area is a type of solution that the Deux-Montagnes mayor believes would be proof of a real desire to mitigate the negative impact generated by work on the project.

With his municipal councillors behind him, Mayor Denis Martin will continue to press for measures that better reflect the situation that residents who take the train daily must face.
