Reaction of Deux-Montagnes Mayor

Mayor Denis Martin of Deux-Montagnes acknowledged the efforts made by the stakeholders involved to implement mitigation measures. “The solutions proposed for users are more effective than those put on the table in February. I’m especially pleased with the off-peak shuttle to downtown Montreal. I have been a strong advocate of this measure all along. The new fare schedule is also a step in the right direction,” Mayor Martin said.

However, travel time to Montreal remains significantly longer for train users. Mayor Denis Martin shares their dissatisfaction in seeing the deterioration in their quality of life during the lengthy construction period. “I am truly disappointed by the construction delays that extend well beyond the initial timetable. So, let’s ensure that we limit the negative impact of the work by minimizing the period that users are forced to live with severe mobility constraints,” he said.

The Deux-Montagnes municipal council had approved a resolution requesting an improvement in REM mitigation measures in March. Mayor Denis Martin is still very active in finding effective solutions and continues to press for a reduction in the planned REM construction period.
