2017 Canada Day in Deux-Montagnes

Canada Day 2017 – Two Days of Celebrations in Deux-Montagnes! On June 7th, 2017  at the Deux-Montagnes City Hall, a press conference was held to announce the 46th edition of Canada Day in Deux-Montagnes.  In celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday,

The festivities will be held over two days, Friday June 30th and Saturday, July 1st at Central Park, located at 13th Avenue, south of Oka Road in Deux-Montagnes.

Two days filled with family activities, performances from well-known artists, official ceremonies are planned, not to forget the highly anticipated fireworks display.  This year, JerryCo, a tribute featuring legendary Canadian drummer Jerry Mercer (April Wine, Mashmakan) will headline the event.  For a complete schedule, please consult the web site of the event organizing committee at  www.celebrationcanada-mrcdm.ca.

As tradition would hold, the organizing committee nominates each year a Parade Marshall.  Mrs Darlene Gargul will serve at the 2017 Parade Marshall.  Hugely involved in the Deux-Montagnes community since her arrival in 1978, Mrs. Gargul is a person of action. Here is a brief overview of some of the organizations that Mrs. Gargul has been involved with over the last 40 years: 4 Korners Family Resource Center (founder), Women’s Time Out, Heritage Social Club, St-Jude Elementary School, Soccer Deux-Montagnes, CEDEC, CRASLA, and a multitude of other organizations here and in the Montreal area.  Mrs. Gargul has also trained and empowered women in our region to give them the skills and the autonomy to become leaders themselves.

The Mayor of Deux-Montagnes, Mr. Denis Martin, and Mr. Tom Whitton from the Canada Day Committee for MRC Deux-Montagnes used this press conference as an occasion to announce the full schedule of activities and to invite all residents from MRC Deux-Montagnes to join them for Canada Day 2017.

“Canada Day is an opportunity for fellow citizens from the MRC to get together and to proudly share their common values of freedom of expression and of culture.  We are happy to be a partner in this important event for the larger Deux-Montagnes region,” declared Mr. Denis Martin, Mayor of Deux-Montagnes.

Representing Mr. Dave Byers, President of the Committee, Mr. Tom Whitton stated, “Deux-Montagnes is the best place to celebrate Canada Day on the North Shore and in the Greater Montreal region.  I would like to give special thanks to our partners, the City of Deux-Montagnes, the Government of Canada, the Caisse Desjardins Saint-Eustache/Deux-Montagnes and Le Selection Deux-Montagnes for their important contributions to this great event.”

Mr. Neil Hawthorn, General Manager of Caisse Desjardins added: “Again this year, the Caisse Desjardins Saint-Eustache/Deux-Montagnes is pleased to be a partner in Canada Day.  As a cooperative, the Caisse has as its mission to contribute to the economic and social well-being of the community, and taking part in community festivities is another concrete example of our contribution.”

Mrs. Geneviève Ethier, General Director General of Sélection Deux-Montagnes said a few words at this press conference: « As lifestyle creators for more than 25 years, ‘’Réseau Sélection’’ and ‘’Sélection Deux-Montagnes’’ are pleased to be associated with this festive, intergenerational event of symbolic importance for the community and for all the surrounding towns. Now is the time to celebrate! We hope these festivities bring joy to all and continue promoting the noble values of sharing, mutual support and respect. »

This initiative is also made possible by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, a collaboration between Fondation Laurentides, the Government of Canada, and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast.

We must also highlight the Major Sponsors for the event: Benoit Charette, Provincial MNA for Deux-Montagnes, Marché IGA – Sénécal et filles, Lanthier & Beatty Construction, RTS Installations and AéroDrone.
