REM CONSTRUCTION – TREES CUTTING IN BOULEVARD DU LAC SURROUNDING AREA

Deux-Montagnes, February 7, 2020 – A number of trees were cut down on Boulevard du Lac recently. The trees were cut down by CDPQ Infra as part of the work on the future Réseau express métropolitain (REM) and not by the City of Deux-Montagnes.

Unlike a private developer, the REM is covered by Bill 137 concerning theRéseau électrique métropolitain, which exempts it from requiring permission or permits from cities crossed by the project with the exception of municipal infrastructure (sewers, etc.).

As a result, the City of Deux-Montagnes can only comment on the plans and work carried out by the REM in Deux-Montagnes. The REM and the NouvLR consortium are fully responsible for the project and all the work related to it.

An agreement signed between the City of Deux-Montagnes and the REM ensures that the city is informed (section 6) of the work in progress. For this reason, the City of Deux-Montagnes posts information it receives from the REM on its website.

Rest assured that the City of Deux-Montagnes will nevertheless continue to make representations to REM authorities in order to make them aware of the undesirable consequences of some of the work being done.
