Deux-Montagnes Mayor Elected to Union of Quebec Municipalities Executive Committee

Deux-Montagnes, May 10, 2019 – During the 98th Annual Convention of the Union of Quebec Municipalities (UMQ), Mayor Denis Martin of Deux-Montagnes was elected by his peers to the UMQ Executive Committee, the organization’s senior level of authority.

Honoured by the responsibilities associated with the position, Mayor Martin thanked the members of the UMQ board of directors for putting their confidence in him. “It is truly an honour to be elected to the executive committee. This commitment is an opportunity for me to be at the heart of decision-making on major local, regional, and provincial issues, and to actively participate in finding solutions to help Quebec municipalities meet the many challenges they face today,” he said.

Mayor Martin’s experience as a manager and elected representative will certainly be an asset in helping the committee decide what’s best for the UMQ. He’s been a member of the UMQ board of directors for the Laurentians since 2015, as well as chair of the economic development committee. In addition, he is prefect of the MRC de Deux-Montagnes and a member of the Montreal Metropolitan Community transport committee.

About the UMQ

For the past 100 years, the UMQ has represented local governments in every region of Quebec. The UMQ mission is to provide strong leadership for effective, autonomous local governments by mobilizing municipal expertise, supporting members in carrying out their functions, and promoting enhanced municipal democracy. UMQ members, representing over 85% of the population and land area of Quebec, are grouped into affinity caucuses: local municipalities, central municipalities, regional cities, major cities, and municipalities in the Montreal metropolis.
